She has won the election with more than 60% of the votes

Margarita Arboix, professor in Pharmacology, elected as new Rector of the UAB.

 

Last Thursday, May 19th, Margarita Arboix professor in Pharmacology has been elected as new Rector of the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB). She has won the final voting with more than 60% of the votes to the other candidate, the Theoretical physicist Antoni Méndez. Thus, Arboix is the second woman to be the head of a Spanish public university, along with the Rector of Universidad de Granada, Pilar Aranda.

 

According to the results, Arboix has won the four sectors in which the voting system is composed: professors, lecturers, students and clerical staff and services.

 

Meanwhile, the future rector has confessed being very happy with the result. She assured that she has now the challenge ahead of being the Rector of everybody and will try to set a different working method in the institution. Her opponent for the election, Antoni Mendez, has admitted Arboix victory and called to congratulate her.

 

Finally, the UAB has said that the official results will be announced on Monday, May 23rd.
