Possibly at the beginning of the next academic year (2016-2017) we will see 3-Year Bachelor´s Degree for the first time in the Spanish Educational System. Up to 24 new qualifications are being negociated, pending of final approval by the corresponding assessment agencies.
Ten universities, under the known as 3+2 decree, have requested authorisation to take 3-Year Bachelor´s Degree for the next academic year. Mainly private universities have been interested in these qualifications, although in Catalunya, some public universities(Universitat de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra)have proposed 3-Year Bachelor´s Degree for new qualifications.
The 3+2 decree has been one of the last measures approved by José Ignacio Wert before leaving the Ministry of Education. Afterwards, the Chancellors (CRUE, Conferencia de Rectores de Universidades Españolas)of several universities established a postponement of this measure for the rest of the qualifications until 2017-2018, permitting only the introduction of 3-Year Bachelor´s Degree in completely new qualifications or in english qualifications, such as the case of the Global Studies Bachelor Degree from Universidad Pompeu Fabra, and the Creation and Digital Production Bachelor´s Degree of the Universidad de Barcelona, or the Bioinformática Bachelor´s Degree of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (along with the UPC and the UB). The rest of the universities that have requested the approval of their 3-Year Bachelor´s Degree are private universities such as Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, Uiversidad Alfonso X El Sabio, Universidad Europea de Madrid, Universidad Católica de Sant Antonio, Universidad Europea de Miguel de Cervantes, Universidad Internacional Isabel I de Castilla and Universidad Internacional de la Rioja.
