Call for Scholarships 2013/14

20/09/2013  |  Victoria Montenegro

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Spain has published the Royal Decree 609/2013, modifying partially the Royal Decree 1721/2007, laying down the thresholds of income, family assets, amounts of scholarships and aids for the academic year 2013-2014.

 SIGMA is already developing adaptations to the product, in order to accomplish the deadlines set by the MECYD. (Deadline for presentation of requests is on October 15, 2013)

The most relevant modification of this year’s call is that 100% of the scholarships shall be general scholarships, and the mobility scholarships call disappears.

Other modifications are explained above;

I. New Economic Conditions

The main change is aids concession to students whose scholarship is granted. The system applicable since 1983, which consist on a mix of individual and combined aids for the students, changes substantially and gives way to a new system which consists in two large blocks of aids, granted in two different periods of the call:

1. Fixed Aids: These aids, consisting on a tuition assistance, and financial and housing assistance, shall be awarded in the first period (as yet unspecified), Transportation from the insular areas and scholarships for disabled students are included in this category of Aids.

2. Variables Aids: The amount of this type of scholarships shall be subject to the academic performance and the income level of each student.

Fixed grant shall be awarded to students from low-income families. The amount shall be compared with income thresholds, from this call, are reduced to 3. (See documentation MECYD table)

On the other hand, the formula for variables grant designed by the Ministry, shall consider the academic performance and the income of the students. The minimum amount of these grants shall be 60 euros.

It is important to remark that variable grants shall only be awarded if, after having distributed the fixed grants, there are still financial funds available.

II. New Academic Requirements

The average rating of Grade studies shall not be taken into account for the calculation of the average, neither the subjects not passed (failed, abandoned or not presented).

However, all subjects shall be taken into account for the calculation of the variable amount.

It shall be mandatory to inform the two average ratings. For students of 1st note access without specific phase and in the case of notes to aid, with or without subjects not passed.
