According to the last ranking published by Times Higher Education, the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), all of them partner universities of SIGMA, are among the 150 best young universities in the world. The UAB tops the national ranking with the 12th position, followed by UPF in the 15th UAM in 71st and UC3M between 101-150th position.
All the universities that appear on the list are under 50. The performance indicators used for this ranking are the same indicators used for the famous World Universities Ranking, but giving a relative weight to reputation due to its youthfulness. The criteria followed by Times Higher Education have been: teaching environment, research environment, citations (research influence), industry income and international outlook.
Regarding to the overall results, the École Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne (Switzerland) leads the ranking, followed by the Nanyang Technological University (Singapur) in 2nd position and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong) in 3rd. It is worth stressing that asian universities occupy four of the six first positions.
By countries, the UK is the most represented, with 25 universities on the list among the 150 but Australia has more universities than anybody located on the top 100 with a total of 16. As far as Spain is concerned, a total of 10 Spanish universities made it to the list.
