SIGMA signs the Groningen Declaration, enlarging that way the list of organizations that are committed to the mobility of students globally
Promoted by DUO, the Dutch national agency for education funding, the Founding Global Seminar was held in 2012 in the city of Groningen, in order to draft the Declaration bearing the name of that city of the Netherlands. SIGMA was present at the seminar that coincided in time and place, not coincidentally, with the convening of the RS3G Workshop for defining European standards of mobility.

“In a nutshell
The Groningen Declaration seeks common ground in best serving the academic and professional mobility needs of citizens world wide by bringing together key stakeholders in the Digital Student Data Ecosystem.
Our goal
We make Digital Student Data Portability happen. Citizens world wide should be able to consult and share their authentic educational data with whomever they want, whenever they want, wherever.”
The declaration of a global nature, was initially signed not only by the Dutch agency itself, but also by other organizations of the stature of CHESICC China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center, the US NSC National Student Clearinghouse, the NAD National Academy Depository from India, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the SAQA South African Qualification Authority, the EAIE European Association for International Education or EUNIS European University Information Systems (organization where SIGMA CEO sits on the Board of Members).
Also other companies and organizations joined in the foundational seminar, such as DARE Digital Academic Records Exchange of the United Kingdom, the RS3G group to create standards for the mobility of Erasmus (group currently led by SIGMA and that has become a task force EUNIS), the Norwegian consortium Felles Studentsystem, the Irish company Digitary, provider of technology solutions for Higher Education or SIGNE, an Spanish company for printing secure documents such as university degrees.
Later, at the annual event of 2013, the Declaration had new signatories which include those of European non-for-profit consortia CINECA in Italy and AMUE in France, the AACRAO American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers from the USA and other official institutions from countries like Mexico, Australia, Belgium and Romania.
In April 2014, SIGMA has given its official support to the Declaration, becoming one of the signatories and following the actions undertaken by European consortia and organizations with which it has a close working relationship. Along with SIGMA, participated in the signing this year the UDUAL Association of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Swedish consortium Ladok and the US Educational Perspectives Agency for the Evaluation of Credentials.
