Last Monday, May 9th, took place in the Monastery of Yuste the Carlos V European Award that is bestowed by the European Academy Foundation of Yuste. The king Felipe VI, accompanied by the president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, gave the award this year to the Italian teacher Sofía Corradi, affectionately known as “Mamma Erasmus”. This prize is the recognition of her professional career and the work she has done in the building up of the European Union.
The Erasmus programme, which started in 1987, has given the opportunity to more than 3.5 million of European students to live unique experiences, helping to raise in them characteristics as important as knowledge, personal development, maturity, autonomy or creativity in the decision making process through a complete immersion un a completely different culture
That said, Spain is the European country that receives more Erasmus students and also the one that sends more Spanish students abroad with an overall number close to 40.000 students per year. Other countries that also participate with a high number of students on this exchange are France or Germany.
Regarding to SIGMA and the contribution made for our partners to the European mobility programme, we have to remark that they are on the national average or over the average in students mobility if we take as reference the data provided by RankingCYD, project made by the CYD Foundation to provide more transparency to the Spanish higher education system.
