SIGMA’s university partners Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) have been listed number 17th and 18th respectively in the prestigious Times Higher Education Young University Rankings list. They have once more consolidated themselves in the world’s top 20 ranking of young universities. SIGMA’s partners Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M), also appear on the list in the 66th and 151th positions respectively.
This year’s THE Ranking includes a list of 200 institutions, 50 more than last year’s Ranking, which are considered the world’s best universities aged 50 years or under. The table uses the same 13 performance indicators as the well-known flagship THE World University Rankings to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons. However, the methodology has been recalibrated to give less weight to reputation; institutions must demonstrate high standards of performance across teaching, research, international outlook, industry income, and citations to be featured in the list.
Whilst SIGMA’s partners UPF, UAB, and UAM are leading the Spanish raking, the world’s top 5 list features the same institutions as last year. The Swiss École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is leading the way followed by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (both from South Korea).
